Responsibilities

Job Title: Tool and Die Maker 2

Summary Responsible for the design and creation of both standard and complex tools and fixtures to support the production demands, development projects, and enhancement of existing manufactured parts and assemblies.
In this role, you will be required to interpret design drawings, develop a plan of action, then cut and shape metal to create the desired finished product.
To be successful as a tool and die maker, you should have in-depth knowledge of metalwork and engineering, a good eye for detail, and the ability to visualize structural components. A top-class tool and die maker is able to translate ideas into expertly crafted metal forms ready for the manufacturing process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

•    Setting up and operating a CNC and manually controlled machines such as lathes, milling machines, precision grinders, gun drills, etc to make parts and tools to sketch/drawing requirements.
•    Using a variety of machinist’s hand tools and precision measuring instruments that monitor and verify drawing/work order requirements are being met.
•    Making complex shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling. 
•    Monitoring and verifying quality in accordance with manufacturing planning, quality plans, and engineering drawings  
•    Ensuring part quality by adjusting machine controls as necessary
•    Assisting the Operations team to meet production deadlines by supporting their needs as necessary
•    Working with support resources and cell leaders to creatively problem solve
•    Maintaining a safe working environment by adhering to safety policies, contributing to risk mitigation management teams, and keeping all work areas clean.
•    Contributing to team effort by maintaining a positive attitude.
•    Continuously striving to find ways to make manufacturing process more efficient and effective.
•    Observing and listening to machine operation to detect malfunctions, such as worn or damaged cutting tools, following best machining practices.
•    Cleaning machine, tooling, parts and performing machine TPM requirements.
•    Contributing to the overall effectiveness of the machine shop through participation in FOD, 5S, TPM, PM, and Process Improvement programs.
•    May train others on job tasks they are proficient in.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience                               
Minimum:

Legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship.
•    15 years experience running and setting up manually controlled machine tools
OR
•    10 year experience with multi-axis CNC machine tools
•    Demonstrates expert knowledge of and experience with:
o    Precision measuring tools, gauges, and other inspection devices
o    Part drawings/blueprints, dimensioning, and tolerancing
    Including GD&T
o    Shop math
o    CNC Machine tool controls and G-code
o    DNC Control systems
o    Machine preventative and corrective maintenance
    Including machine troubleshooting
•    Demonstrates advanced knowledge of and experience with:
o    Material and Metallurgical properties related to machining process
o    Heat treating processes
o    Aerospace industry specifications
o    Machine tool maintenance and preventative care
•    Demonstrated experience in lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and waste reduction concepts
•    General knowledge of metallurgical properties including heat treating various types of metals.
