Overview

 

Triumph Engine Control Systems is a leading global independent aerospace fuel system supplier for the commercial, military, helicopter and business jet markets. Based in West Hartford, CT, Triumph employs approximately 550 employees. The Company’s key products and services include electronic engine controls, fuel metering units and main fuel pumps for both the OE and aftermarket / spares end markets.

 

The Supplier Process Engineer will be part of a highly skilled integrated Supply Chain team, working to improve supplier quality and delivery performance. The role develops and maintains technical knowledge of product and manufacturing process requirements, ensuring that suppliers have process capability for the parts sourced and manage through non-conformance events. The aim is to support all areas of the business, ensuring that parts are delivered on time, in full and in accordance with all applicable requirements.

Responsibilities

 

  • Identify and communicate technical, regulatory, and product integrity requirements for each part number sourced and assist suppliers in their understanding and resolution of technical issues. 
  • Ensure that all suppliers have the capability and necessary systems in place to meet Triumph requirements defined on the Purchase Orders. Provide input to the strategic sourcing process.
  • Conduct risk assessments of the supply base and carry out regular product and process audits within suppliers to assess the effectiveness of their manufacturing and quality control systems.
  • Validate supplier process capability and in the case of NPI conducting PFMEA activity and participate in production readiness assessments including capacity confirmation to ensure a timely ramp-up to production volumes.
  • Manage ECRs (Engineering Change Requests) raised as a result of supplier input through to approval, ensuring that interim arrangements are in place to allow continuation of production with appropriate approvals. 
  • Review concessions and permits from suppliers and manage their progress through to approval.
  • Ensure defective parts are returned promptly to suppliers (wherever possible).
  • In the case of concessions, permits, and defective parts, ensure that the supplier provides a complete Corrective Action Report and Root Cause Analysis using structured problem solving. Review CARs provided by suppliers to verify their use of the Total Quality Toolkit and that root causes of non-conformances have been addressed.
  • Make recommendations regarding additional inspection requirements such as use of “Customer Eyes over-check” to ensure conformance of parts on delivery.
  • Be competent in the use of Lean and 6-Sigma tools. Coach suppliers in the deployment of such tools.
  • Understand and measure constituent cost drivers for materials, labor, and overhead at product level to support the buyers in cost analysis. Where appropriate, develop improvement activities to reduce these.

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelors’ Degree (Business, Operations, Supply Management or Engineering).
  • Preferred 5+ years’ working in a supply chain function within a highly engineered/complex manufacturing environment.
  • A complete understanding of process control, total quality, lean manufacturing, and structured problem solving.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate verbally and in writing at all levels internally and externally.
  • High level of self-motivation and job planning, able to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • A strong technical background gained in a manufacturing/design engineering environment.
  • Computer literacy including competence in analysis using Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Project.
  • Experience working with aerospace specifications and quality systems a plus.
  • Materials engineering or manufacturing engineering background highly preferred.
  • APICS Certification, Certificate in Purchasing Management (CPM) or Contracts Management desired.
