Position Summary: The Mechanical Design Manager is responsible for the managing the design, drafting and analysis resources of the mechanical products within the Engineering Department.  The position covers new product development and product support activities of nose wheel steering, aircraft fuel system components, and environmental controls.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership to the Mechanical Design group to achieve project milestones adhering to Triumph, industry and customer design requirements.
  • Work with the Project Engineering group to execute design and analysis to program milestones and deliverables
  • Provide staffing and resource decisions, to execute tasks for the business.
  • Manage mechanical design efforts by delegating workload within the design group.  
  • Develop staff through training and development, mentoring, and challenging work assignments.
  • Review customer requirements with the intention of providing mechanical solutions to thermal systems, nose wheel steering units and engine system elements, such as vapor cycle compressors, thermal expansion valves, heat exchangers, fuel pumps & metering units and accessories.
  • Create internal requirements from customer requirements including listings of assumptions to be discussed with further customer contact.
  • Lead engineering trade studies and analysis relevant to dynamic fuel pumping systems, vapor cycle systems, and/or liquid cooling systems technologies.
  • Troubleshoot fluid and mechanical systems.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering required, MS degree a plus.
  • Managerial experience.
  • Specific interest in pump design, environmental control system packaging, nose wheel steering design, valve design and analysis.
  • Specific interest in high speed rotating systems.
  • System design skills including development technology, trade studies, and requirements/specification development.
  • Ability to read and understand complex drawings.
  • Ability to read, understand, and develop fluid schematics.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Ability and willingness to travel as required.
  • Self-motivated and ability to work independently with minimal guidance and as part of a team.
  • Ability to meet project deadlines/schedule within budget.

 

Desired Knowledge, Skill & Abilities:

  • Knowledgeable of 3D solid modelling, preferably NX, CREO or Catia
  • Knowledgeable of current GD&T and DPD for new designs
