Overview

 

Triumph Engine Control Systems is a leading independent aerospace fuel system supplier for the commercial, military, helicopter and business jet markets. Based in West Hartford, CT, Triumph employs approximately 550 employees. The Company’s key products and services include electronic engine controls, fuel metering units and main fuel pumps for both the OE and aftermarket / spares end markets.

 

The Environmental Health & Safety Engineer will be responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, and maintenance of all Occupational Health and Safety related programs for Triumph Engine Control Systems. The incumbent will ensure at all times that programs achieve or exceed compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements as well as corporate procedures. This position will champion workplace safety through hazard/risk identification, mitigation, training, auditing, inspecting, investigating, and root cause corrective action.

Responsibilities

 

Provide appropriate training/training materials to ensure compliance. Perform audits to determine compliance of program implementation practices and communicate findings to appropriate personnel. Perform hazard analysis, risk assessments, ergonomic evaluations, monitoring, etc. as necessary. Promote continuous improvements related to health and safety. Additional responsibilities include:

 

  • Plan, organize, schedule and conduct inspections of facilities, work areas and equipment. Monitor site conditions, practices, and procedures for compliance with health and safety requirements. Select and implement corrective action and follow-up to ensure proper action has been taken.
  • Provide direction and technical expertise to supervisors and managers to facilitate, coordinate and implement health and safety practices, programs, activities and compliance.
  • Drive and support all Health, Safety and Welfare Policies with a continued focus on protecting both our employees and facility while meeting any/all regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and maintain the Company’s safety and loss run statistics and other required reporting.
  • Perform routine biological, chemical and radiation surveys/sampling for exposure potential and regulatory compliance.
  • Demonstrate how to recognize hazards and develop methods to proactively eliminate the hazards. Uncover patterns in injury data and implement new policies, changes, etc. to mitigate future incidents.

  • Operate, maintain, certify, inspect, and calibrate safety equipment.
  • Act as a backup for the operation of waste water treatment facility.
  • Coordinate and update the Asbestos O/M plan.
  • Assist with mitigation of hazardous material incidents.
  • Active member of the Safety Committee.
  • Maintain and update as necessary all Lockout/Tagout procedures.
  • Develop written JSA’s for all pertinent job/tasks.  
  • Develop and implement ergonomic improvements, including recommending design of industrial, office and other equipment to maximize worker comfort, safety and productivity.
  • Develop and conduct employee and contractor training programs covering a range of topics under various regulatory requirements and/or best practices.
  • Coordinate loss control and fire protection system processes. Train emergency responders in emergency response procedures to reduce potential business interruption.

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, or related field required.
  • Five (5) plus years’ experience is required, industrial experience is recommended.
  • Experience working in position with health and safety responsibilities with emphasis on program compliance, industrial hygiene, ergonomics and hazard/risk assessments.
  • A thorough knowledge of OSHA regulations pertaining to workplace safety is required. Experience in interpreting OSHA regulations is necessary. Knowledge of federal and state workplace safety/health/loss prevention regulations (OSHA, ACGIH, NFPA) required.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills. Facilitation skills required.
  • Must have exceptional computer skills, i.e., Microsoft Office applications including PowerPoint, Excel and Access.
  • Must be able to work well with and communicate to all levels of employees and management and develop an atmosphere of honestly caring for their safety.
  • Ability to problem solve and prioritize workload to manage conflicting priorities.
