Manager, Operations Support

Summary

The Production Machine Shop Manager will lead the production activities such as create and validate new product introductions, work with the General Manager and leadership on the deployment of newer technologies, with a relentless focus on continual improvement. This role shall supervise employees and is directly responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the machine shop to ensure the department is able to form and shape metal by various fabrication methods, machining, and/or welding processes while exceeding established schedules, metrics, goals, and objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Drives daily run output at multiple machine work centers for CNC mills and lathes.
  • Reviews variance of hourly part count to planned estimates and actual results.
  • Ensures schedules are monitored for tooling, engineering and production and are managed for priorities.
  • Monitors tool usage and promotes improvements and methods for cost reduction.
  • Effects employee Performance Development Review and establishes goals and objectives.
  • Participates in internal audits and supports third party audits when required.
  • Analyzes material usage and yield loss and reduces scrap.
  • Identifies Geometrical Dimensioning Tolerance conflicts for viability and validation.
  • Submits engineering change requests for value engineering and advanced interface coherence.
  • Implements control plans and monitors key characteristics.
  • Establishes workflow for specific manufacturing activities, development of manufacturing plans, identifying material, facility, equipment and tooling needs.
  • Coordinate to ensure all manufacturing, machining, and assembly operations are fully supported.
  • Assists in the development of financial budgets, staffing, and tooling/machine requirements and provides input on cost reduction initiatives.
  • Directs activities accordance with production schedules, and established priorities top ensure maximum utilization of resources.
  • Supports outsourcing decisions for make/buy due to capacity constraints and cost.
  • Establishes Key Process Indicators and publishes daily, weekly, monthly metrics with action items for recovery and improvement.
  • Develops staff for cross training and flexibility.
  • Requests and substantiates equipment for advanced technology and capability with investment return or capacity expansion.
  • Promotes ideas for break through change and innovations while reducing undesired effects or results.
  • Monitors and corrects daily reporting for timekeeping.
  • Effects employee Performance Development Reviews and establishes goals and objectives.
  • Analyze material usage and yield loss and reduces scrap.
  • Supports outsourcing decisions for make/buy due to capacity constraints and cost.
  • Establishes Key Process Indicators and publishes daily, weekly, monthly metrics with action items for recovery and improvements.
  • Request and substantiates equipment for advanced technology and capability with investment return or capacity expansion.
  • Promotes idea for break through change and innovations while reducing undesired effects or results.
  • Will work with all other functional areas, such as production control, program management, HR, Quality, and Supply Chain in a collaborative effort to achieve optimum results.
  • Possess the ability to troubleshoot and be proficient at the application of problem-solving tools (DMAIC, RCCSM PDCA).

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or another technical field a plus.
  • 5-10 years of CNC machining manufacturing environment experience is required.
  • Experience in aerospace, defense or other engineering/manufacturing industry preferred.
  • Familiar with Gibbs and Master Cam programming, Mazatrol, Fanuc and Haas controls.
  • Working knowledge of Solidworks design models - STEP, IGES and DFX native file conversion a plus!
  • Experience in millings, turning, forming, grinding and processing for heat treat and plating.
  • Background in AS9100 Quality Management Systems preferred.
  • Ability to mitigate set up issues and have rapid solutions.
  • Ability to develop visual workflow and convert order-based planning to operations capacity flexing.
  • Must be a local candidate, shift may overlap.
  • Knowledgeable in inspection methods and drives work center spot checks to reduce down time.
  • Proficiency with MS applications.
