Job Description

The Buyer is responsible for performing all procurement activities for production procurement activities in support of shop floor requirements and the replenishment of similar type inventory via purchase orders.  Assist other Buyers as well as other members of the organization with preparation, distribution and recording of feedback of standard Supply Chain reports

Responsibilities

  • Locates, identifies, evaluates and contacts suppliers for best cost, service, quality and delivery.
  • Places purchase orders for needed materials and supplies, negotiating price and delivery means and schedules; determines and locates substitutes as necessary.
  • Report cost savings and cost containment results.
  • Strong knowledge with Windows-based computer operating systems and software
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Resolve and/or maximize opportunities regarding vendor issues, stocking, sourcing, pricing, terms and service.
  • Performs proactive follow-up with suppliers to assure delivery at agreed time in order to meet production needs; may prepare periodic reports.  Processes adjustments with suppliers where terms of the purchase order have not been met such as replacements, cancellations, credits and returns; insures appropriate corrective action is taken.
  • Advises requisitioning department of quotations, delivery terms, costs, quantity, and quality subject to requisitioner review.
  • Maintain timely control of orders, amendments, shipping notices and other documents. Review/analyze month-end reporting. Ensure MIOH, Service, Surplus and Stock transfer fees are in with targets.

Qualifications

  • AS/AA in Business or combination of education and relevant work experience required.
  • 2+ years Supply Chain / Purchasing experience.
  • Proficient use of Internet, Microsoft Outlook, Excel (Simple formulas & Pivot Tables) & Word.
  • Background in inventory supply chain, customer service or operations.
  • High ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
