Job Summary

The Maintenance Technician at Triumph Geared Solutions - Macomb with direct supervision, is responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities of maintenance department personnel. Function responsible for installation of equipment: preventative maintenance and repair of production machinery, electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems. Responsible for building maintenance such as wastewater treatment, machine & equipment repair, plumbing, electrical repairs, carpentry, etc. Responsible to transfer information between shifts to achieve the production requirements of the respective departments. Oversees contract maintenance projects involving building facilities, equipment, and machinery. May have responsibility to monitor environmental and/or energy management programs.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Oversees and coordinates planning, design, reconfiguration, construction, maintenance, and alteration of equipment, machinery, buildings, facility structures. Gathers and reviews data concerning facility or equipment specifications, applicable company, or government restrictions and/or permit requirements, required completion dates, and construction feasibility.
  • Inspects or directs the inspection of contractor services, construction, and installation projects to ensure conformance to established drawings, specifications, schedules, and safety considerations.
  • Formulates and recommends changes in facilities management systems and procedures. May coordinate energy conservation program and collect data to support improved conservation and cost reduction measures. May conduct studies to evaluate and determine the most efficient use of utilities, and water treatment resources.
  • Provide guidance toward solving work related problems and the application of acceptable performance and quality standards. Establish and maintain effective controls to assure accuracy and timely completion of assigned work projects.
  • Train and develop employees. Recommend personnel action and apply performance management/ leadership techniques to assure positive employee relations. Explain and support company policies and procedures.
  • Establish and maintain effective control to assure proper use in the operation of machinery, tools, and other company equipment when required.
  • Lead and motivate employees toward participation in product improvement and cycle time reduction programs. Conduct effective department meetings on a regular basis.
  • Ensure area is maintained in a clean, orderly, and safe condition. Monitor, report and resolve unsafe conditions.
  • Assist in the preparation and management of department budget within established guidelines.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements (e.g., environmental, safety, EEO/AA, etc.) by studying existing and new legislation, ensuring adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions.
  • Electrical applications to include but not limited to:
    • HMI / PLC - Set up online communication between a laptop and HMI or PLC
    • Create backups
    • Servo motors
    • Replace motors and cables
    • Hydraulic/Pneumatics
    • Troubleshooting electrical problems on industrial manufacturing equipment
    • Maintain and repair electrical and heavy industrial mechanical equipment
    • Maintain and repair electrical equipment
    • Replace equipment on existing electrical systems
    • Perform industrial electrical maintenance and troubleshooting in a manufacturing plant
    • Locate and repair trouble in wiring or electrical equipment
    • Install electrical components and systems
    • Isolating basic electrical control circuits
    • Trouble shooting electrical systems and wiring and repairing complex electrical and electronic equipment or machinery
    • Maintain all electrical and electronic equipment, switchgears and electrical power
    • Performing routine preventative maintenance on electrical equipment
    • Install various assemblies that require electrical wiring
    • Install, maintain, test, troubleshoot and repair industrial electrical equipment and associated electrical and electronic controls
    • Installing and repairing electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical and electronic components of industrial machinery and equipment
    • Calibrate, and repair electrical-pneumatic control systems
    • Maintain, install, and repair plant equipment electrical systems and facility electrical system.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Specialized post-secondary education in business, engineering, or journeyman level certification in a building trade (Electrical/Electronic, HVAC, or mechanical maintenance) providing both theoretical and practical knowledge in the field. Lean concepts is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the job typically acquired through eight or more years of related experience in an industrial maintenance environment.
  • Basic understanding of machining, sheet metal fabrication, vacuum furnace and salt brazing is required. Familiarization with precision TIG welding is preferred.
  • Knowledge of facility engineering principles, industry practices, regulations, and policies. Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements related to facilities, equipment, and plant layout (e.g., OSHA, Unified Building and Electrical Codes, and environmental regulations).
  • Ability to effectively apply continuous improvement methods and techniques. Ability to use standard business software applications and specialized systems (e.g., CAD or environmental monitoring systems).
  • Ability to work on a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity where analysis of the situation or data requires thorough identification of factors and analysis of impact.
  • Ability to work within general work objectives regarding projects and team goals.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret policies and recommend changes to procedures.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and present information to team members, team leaders, and top management.
  • Ability to respond to significant inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to effectively demonstrate team member competencies and participate in goal setting, performance feedback, and self-development activities.
  • Electrical Qualifications to include but not limited to:
    • Interpret drawings and electrical code specifications to determine layout of industrial electrical equipment installations
    • Understand electrical wiring diagrams and schematics
    • Identifying basic electrical symbols and reading electrical schematic diagrams
    • Interpret complex electrical wiring diagrams and schematics

Physical Requirements

  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands/fingers to handle/feel; reach with hands and arms; climb; balance; stoop; kneel; crouch; crawl; reach; pull; balance; carry; handle. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job that include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus. Ability to walk and stand on concrete surfaces for significant amount of time during workday.
