Job Summary

The Gear Lab Inspector is responsible for the ultra-high precision dimensional inspection, analytical testing, and geometric evaluation of complex gearing. The core function of this role is setting up, programming, and operating Klingelnberg Precision Measuring Centers, specifically the P40, P65, and P100 machine platforms. Using specialized Klingelnberg application software, the inspector guarantees micro-geometric compliance of gear tooth profiles, cutting tools, and rotationally symmetrical components against strict customer blueprints.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Klingelnberg CNC Center Operation:  Set up, calibrate, and execute fully automatic measuring runs on CNC-controlled Klingelnberg P40, P65, and P100 systems utilizing high-precision direct-drive rotary tables.
  • Advanced Gear Application Metrology: Program and utilize proprietary Klingelnberg software modules to measure and evaluate tooth topography, profile/lead deviations, helix variation, twist, tip/root relief, total composite error, and pitch variations.
  • Multi-Task Inspection in Single Clamping: Perform comprehensive analysis on a wide array of component types—including cylindrical gears, bevel gears, splines, and specialized hobs or shaper cutters.
  • Production Floor & Closed-Loop Collaboration: Interpret measurement charts to calculate correction settings for the manufacturing floor, supporting Klingelnberg Closed-Loop data exchange networks between the inspection lab and CNC gear grinding/cutting machines.
  • Blueprint & GD&T Evaluation: Read highly detailed manufacturing blueprints and apply advanced Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles to verify critical datums, form, and position parameters.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School or Technical School Diploma or equivalent. Associates Degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Technology a plus
  • Klingelnberg Software Competency: Proven experience navigating Klingelnberg evaluation and calibration software
  • Machine Competency: Practical experience operating high-accuracy scanning probes on stable, heavy-duty Klingelnberg P-series measuring beds.
  • Mathematical & Geometric Literacy: Strong understanding of rotational mechanics, splines, coordinate systems, and micro-geometry of gear flanks.
  • Precision Measuring Tools: Secondary proficiency with standard precision lab equipment such as micrometers, height gauges, calipers, and master gauges.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years’ experience performing gear inspections in aerospace or military/defense manufacturing.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications.
