Responsibilities
- Oversee material hardness testing in accordance with ASTM E-384, ASTM E-18, ASTM E-92 and ASTM E-140 standards; Provide technical support for existing equipment and processes in a manufacturing environment to ensure optimum efficiency is achieved.
- Provide technical assistance in heat treatment testing and validation methods and equipment specifications to ensure compliance with internal and external heat treatment requirements.
- Participate in assessments of heat treat capacity and help define capacity & equipment needs for all heat treating assets; Conduct process capability studies, calculate statistical information, and interpret results.
- Develop training programs and oversee the training of plant personnel in the operation of new and existing systems.
- Solve difficult and complex heat treating problems; Collaborate with the Materials group on the above activities to ensure alignment with corporate standards for heat treated product.
- Independently manage multiple projects and activities to meet safety, quality, cost, delivery, and continuous improvement goals while meeting planned deadlines.
- Follow all prescribed safety rules and regulations; and Perform related duties as assigned by leadership.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in the area of Metallurgical Engineering
- Minimum 10 years' experience in a metallurgical testing environment in an aerospace environment. Familiarity/experience with AS9100 and NADCAP Heat Treating regulations/compliance and ASTM & ASM standards.
- Fundamental knowledge of microstructure-property relationships in case and through-hardened steels used in bearings and gears.
- Practical experience with alloy and process selection, application specific characterization and specification development for metallic materials used in bearing assemblies for aerospace/defense and medical device applications.
- Experience in failure analysis and failure prevention methods and activities
- Strong ability to prioritize multiple issues under pressure and continuously lead change
- Knowledge of GDT.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with ability to interface with an organization at all levels.
- Ability to travel to suppliers to help analyze and address metallurgical problems.
- Excellent problem solving and ability to use basic, intermediate, and advanced quality tools.
- Experience utilizing quality tools to solve HT problems.
- Genuine self- guided work ethic and natural attention to detail
- Proficiency in utilizing Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Experience with New Product Introduction and Program Start-up
