Job Summary

The Environmental Safety & Health (ES&H) Engineer at Triumph Geared Solutions - Macomb develops, manages, and maintains the facility’s ES&H Program promoting safe and healthful work practices for the protection of the employees, physical assets, and production operations. The ES&H Manager will work with employees at all levels of the organization and is a member of the plant President’s staff. The ES&H Manager will represent the company and act as the liaison with governmental agencies and will interact directly with the company Director of ES&H and other facility ES&H leaders.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Lead development of facility strategic ES&H Planning. Work with plant management and staff to implement and execute plan
  • Lead and/or participate in the investigation of employee concerns, ES&H Incidents, and Near Misses, along with corrective action development, implementation, and follow-up
  • Maintain and communicate ES&H metrics as required, to facility, division, and corporate ES&H management
  • Ensure ES&H reviews are integrated into the Management of Change process and the Lean efforts
  • Evaluate effectiveness of existing ES&H programs; determine the need for any additional programs; develop and implement additional programs as needed, or dictated by division and corporate management
  • Act as the facility ES&H contact with government agencies
  • Track and audit programs for compliance with all state, city and federal regulations to include inspections/audits and data for environmental reports, along with timely report submittal (Form R, air emissions reports, etc.)
  • Develop and conduct environmental and safety training for new employees, annual training for existing employees, lead the safety committee and conduct walk-throughs.
  • Ensure proper monitoring and staffing of the plant environmental control equipment and the monitoring/sampling/reporting is complete and submitted as required by permit.
  • Lead representative of the Foreign Object Debris/Damage “FOD” Program.
  • Generate, maintain, and proved FOD metrics to leadership and oversee FOD improvement projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • B.A/B.S. in Environmental Science, Physical Sciences, Safety Management, Industrial Hygienist, Business Management, or related field.
  • ES&H-related Certifications preferred; Registered Environmental manager (REM), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM).
  • 3 – 5 years ES&H experience
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Good computer skills in Microsoft Office applications
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to read, write and understand the English language.
  • Ability to assemble and analyze safety incident data and routinely provide statistical information as requested in support of corporate reporting requirements.
  • Must be able to provide leadership and guidance to the site management team.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to bend, stoop, stand, kneel, and lift up to 50 lbs. as needed.
  • Ability to remain seated for long periods of time while working on a computer or documentation, etc.
  • Must have manual dexterity to operate computer keyboard and standard office equipment.
  • Must be capable of withstanding long period of viewing data on a computer screen and/or in paper format.
  • Ability to interact with a diversity of people and diverse levels of personnel
