International Trade and Compliance Manager

Position Summary

This role works with internal functions, customers, third-party providers and regulatory authorities to implement safe, organised and efficient logistics and customs trade compliance activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

•    Taking the lead in working with internal functions, customers and third-party providers for trade compliance and logistics management, with successful query response, escalation as required, processing and resolution of activities 
•    Providing guidance and support to ensure adherence with International Trade Compliance (ITC) and Incoterms as they relate to contracts or operational requirements including control classifications, intangible exports, application of UK/ US/IOM exports licences and collection and maintenance of End User Undertakings/ certificates
•    Ensure company dispatch documentation is not only compliant with regulatory requirements but also aligns with customer requirements
•    Work with couriers and UK/IOM Customs including for product shipping and compliantly importing and re-exporting all returns, in line with business processes, procedures and local work instructions.  Includes, but not limited to, activities and reporting related to HMRC requirements including Inward/ Outward Processing Relief, UK Export Control and US ITAR licence requirements and ensuring accuracy of source information used for import and export customs declaration, with particular reference to origin, value and commodity codes
•    Provide Customs brokers with import clearance instructions for all imports coming into the business and ensure that the status of shipments is properly communicated to all involved departments with any discrepancies being handled immediately
•    Ensuring that all import compliance requirements are met and that timely clearance and onward delivery of products is achieved
•    Initiate, monitor and follow up on the activities of third-party vendors and freight agents. Handle traffic and export tasks including enquiries, international purchase and sales orders
•    Acting as specialist, working with company management and functions to advise on, create and update working policies and documents relating to trade compliance and customs issues ensuring they are robust, fit for purpose, correctly implemented and adhered to across all relevant business sites 
•    Responsible for tactical compliance management of all import and export issues as well as other trade compliance regulatory/ legislative requirements, which will include tangible and intangible products, finished products, and repair and return services, transfer of technology and data transfer   
•    Prepare and carry out presentations; leading meetings as specialist for logistics and trade compliance 
•    Managing transportation and cost efficiencies 
•    Maintain/ update systems and distribute appropriate reporting. Collation and reporting of data statistics and other information including for audits, ITC, management and customer reviews 
•    Maintaining all record keeping activities in respect to import and export compliance within UK law, including customs authorisations, supporting guarantees and Inward Processing
•    Liaise with Regulatory Authorities as they relate to the business, prepare for and facilitate external audits. Prepare and submit voluntary declarations if required. Implement corrective actions in a timely manner
•    Completion of any work-related tasks, which would be deemed reasonable for this role. 

Job Requirements

 Job Requirements, Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

 

•    Knowledge of Trade Compliance laws, regulations and ISO requirements with demonstrable experience and knowledge of export and customs compliance, preferably in a similar role with a medium/ large-scale importer/ exporter of goods
•    Proactive, results focused and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines 
•    A ‘hands on, can do approach’, coupled with excellent organisational and problem-solving skills
•    Attention to detail 
•    Broad understanding of business processes and methods (e.g. Supplier/ Manufacturing/ Quality means and methods, capabilities and constraints)
•    Excellent communication and written skills; with ability to influence and resolve conflict as required
•    Able to communicate and work effectively with all levels of management/ non-management including within the company, external customer organisations and authorities
•    Previous experience in design and delivery of staff training is desirable
•    Excellent IT and system skills – including MS Office, database and ERP systems. 

Position Details

•    Hours of Employment: 37 hours a week. Flexibility may be required. 
•    Based in Deeside, Flintshire. Travel between business sites, customer and supplier locations will be required
