Responsibilities

Machinist 4 Overview:

Responsibilities:

• Sets up and operates conventional, special-purpose, and numerical control (NC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts, and fits and assembles machined parts into complete units, applying knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures, shop mathematics, machinability of materials, and layout techniques: Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements. 
• Work with a variety of hand tools, measuring devices, power tools, milling machines, lathes, band saws, bench grinders, and materials
• Basic knowledge of G-code and Conversational Programming.
• Service/maintain machines.
• Perform operations, set-ups, adjustments, cleaning and prove-outs on CNC or Lathe machines.
• Read blueprints and/or job orders for product specifications such as dimensions and tolerances and tooling instructions such as fixtures, feed rates, cutting speeds, depth of cut and follow sequence of operations per routings.
• Complete tasks including dimensional and visual inspections per print specifications, paperwork and scan into system to report labor on jobs.
• Repairs and replaces defective parts, sets up and operates lathe, drill press, grinder and other metal working tools to make and repair parts.
• Assemble components and controls both simple and complex.
• Machines materials other than metal, such as composites, plastic, and rubber as required.
• Cleans machine, tooling, parts and performs machine maintenance along with 6S principals.
• Adjust machine feed and speed and change cutters to machine parts according to specifications when automatic programming is faulty or machine malfunctions, will coordinate with manufacturing engineer.

 

Some machines may be numerically controlled. 

May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures and certify/test product. 

Qualifications

Physical Requirements: Work may require bending, carrying up to 40 lbs.  Sitting or standing up to a minimum for eight hours per day

Minimum Education Required: High school diploma or GED.

Experience: 3-5 years of related machining experience. Post high school coursework or professional certification preferred.

• Perform basic math (add, subtract, multiple, and divide).

• Flexibility with changes in work requirements.
• Attention to detail.
• Perform basic computer skills, such as open and save files along with basic data entry.
• Understand basic terminology used in the job functional area.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints.                                                                                                                         
• GD&T knowledge and troubleshooting skills.
