Position Profile: Mechanical Engineer – Hydraulic

Summary:
Triumph Group is looking for a talented and energetic Hydraulic Engineer to support all phases of product development and qualification testing.
The successful candidate will have Hydraulic Engineering skills including fluid power theory and related knowledge to design, test and troubleshoot operational civil/military hydraulic systems and applications. The qualified candidate must be a self-motivated individual who thrives in an environment that allows you to work both independently and collaboratively.

Essential Functions:    
•    Complete fluid power systems experience with all types of hydraulic components including pumps, valves, actuators, etc.
•    Experience in civil/military equipment hydraulic and system design, and development.
•    Knowledge of piping and hose layout as well as reading, interpreting, and creating hydraulic & pneumatic schematics using Visio or similar.
•    Uses CAD system to create 3D models and assemblies using Creo Parametric or similar.
•    Ability to systematically solve hydraulic related problems and perform root cause analysis 
•    Experience with hardware devices such as fluid power control and measurement including PLC’s, DAQ, and other communication devices.
•    The ability to design, set up, program, and commission complex hydraulic and data acquisition systems.
•    Capable of translating product development and qualification specifications into a compliant test stand.
•    Solid understanding of fundamental and advanced hydraulic theory and the ability to apply knowledge in the design of complex hydraulic circuits in an OEM environment.
•    Knowledge of fluid power standard and equations and the ability to apply that knowledge to proper sizing of equipment.
•    Evaluate and implement new technologies for hydraulic product testing applications. 
•    Support Test Technicians, Test Engineers, and Design Engineers in equipment integration and commissioning.
•    Comply with all company policies and procedures, including safety requirements.

Competencies:
•    Must be able to respond effectively to unanticipated, time-sensitive, and mission-critical test stand repair needs in a rapidly changing, high intensity environment.
•    Must be able to build and maintain effective working relationships with other members of the engineering team, as well as with production personnel and senior management.
•    Excellent verbal and written communication skills including effective communications in English with the ability to explain complex principles in common language.
•    Manage workload among changing priorities, alternating between hands-on verification, validation, software development and automation.
•    Good organizational skills, and ability to independently manage multiple and conflicting priorities.
•    Strong leadership and project management skills and self-starter.

Supervisory responsibility:
The Mechanical Engineering role has no supervisory responsibilities.

Required education, certification, and experience:
•    Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.  Additional experience in lieu of education may be considered.
•    Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a hydraulic engineering environment. 
•    Certified fluid power hydraulic specialist (CFPS) or NFPA (National Fluid Power Association) is not required but will be considered favorably. 

Physical demands:
•    May require lifting, pulling, and carrying up to fifty (50) pounds
•    Frequent bending, climbing stairs, pulling, pushing, and reaching overhead.
•    Standing and or other active work for up to eight (8) hours per day.  Sitting up to eight (8) hours per day, or a combination of sitting and standing. 

Travel:
Up to 10% travel required.
