Triumph Group is looking for a talented and energetic Electric Motor Engineer to support new product development in civil/military aerospace electro-hydraulic systems and components in active production.
The successful candidate will have a strong foundation in electrical engineering with specific skills in electromagnetic design, analysis, and test.  The candidate will be expected to design electrical motor systems and components and manage all engineering aspects culminating with product qualification. The candidate will also evaluate product improvement opportunities and execute on solutions to realize cost and/or weight reductions.  The qualified candidate must be a self-motivated individual who thrives in a challenging, fast-paced environment.

Essential Functions 
• Responsible for electromagnetic analysis, modeling and design of electric machines utilized in aerospace applications
• Testing and validation of motors for system requirements
• Provides technical leadership for projects incorporating complex electromechanical (“Mechatronic”) systems
• Designs and optimizes simultaneous system performance goals through requirements flow down
• Verifies and calibrates modeling tools and corrects deficiencies in designs and prototypes
• Understands and creates system and subsystem specifications
• Stays abreast with new technology
• Ability to communicate with a cross-functional team of engineers, technicians, and program managers when solving multidisciplinary problems. 
• Ability to identify design deficiencies and address thru established Engineering Change processes
• Ability to lead cost reduction projects on legacy products inclusive of product re-qualification
• Complies with all company policies and procedures, including safety requirement


• Knowledge of brushless machines such as Permanent Magnet (PM) and magnetic devices
• Knowledge of electromagnetic finite element analysis
• Experience with design and analysis of electric machines
• Strong computer skills, and knowledge of simulation tools (e.g. Flux2D/3D, Matlab) is required
• General competency in all core fields (electronics, electromagnetic)
• Perform classical motor design calculations to determine rough motor sizing, number of poles and winding design
• Generate Bill of Material to satisfy design specification
• Input motor geometry into FEA software and perform analysis
• Review motor fabrication drawings
• Test prototype motor against requirements
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Including effective communications in English, with the ability to explain complex principles in common language.
• Good organizational skills, and ability to independently manage multiple and conflicting priorities.


Supervisory responsibility
The Electric Motor Project Engineering role has no supervisory responsibilities.


.Required education, certification, and experience
• Bachelors Degree in Engineering required
• MS in Electrical Engineering or a PhD in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis in Electric Machines preferred.  Additional experience in lieu of education may be considered.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in detailed design of electrical machines.
• Aerospace application experience preferred.


Physical demands
• May require lifting, pulling, and carrying up to fifty (50) pounds.
• Frequent bending, climbing stairs, pulling, pushing, and reaching overhead.
• Standing and or other active work for up to eight (8) hours per day.  Sitting up to eight (8) hours per day, or a combination of sitting and standing.


Up to 10% travel required.
